French officials say a French journalist held hostage in Iraq for five months has been released along with her Iraqi driver.

The French foreign ministry says Florence Aubenas, who worked for the French newspaper Liberation, was freed Sunday and is expected to arrive in France later in the day.

Ms. Aubenas and her driver, Hussein Hanoun, were abducted in Baghdad on January 5, triggering a public campaign in France and Europe to have them released.

About 150 foreigners have been seized in Iraq over the last two years.

Separately, the U.S. military said Saturday American warplanes launched air strikes on sites in Iraq near the Syrian border, killing about 40 insurgents.
