2 Iraqi Police Killed in Suicide Car Bombing in Tikrit

Iraqi police say a suicide car bomber blew up his explosive-filled vehicle near a police patrol in Tikrit Monday, killing two officers and injuring several people.

An official says the bomber detonated the charge when four police cars surrounded the suspected vehicle.

On Sunday, Iraqi police said they had discovered the decomposed bodies of 20 unidentified men who were shot in the head.

Police said the bodies were found at a military firing range south of Baghdad. A leading Sunni clerical organization in Iraq says witnesses described the dead as Sunni Muslims.

Meanwhile, the South Korean government says it plans to seek an extension of its deployment of more than 3,000 troops in Iraq for another year. Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-woong says he believes Iraq will need multinational forces until the middle of 2006 as it builds up its own security forces.
