Officials in Pakistan say they have found the body of a pro-government tribal elder and religious leader kidnapped last week in a northern tribal area bordering Afghanistan.
The body of 55-year-old Janat Mir was found early Monday near a village in Pakistan's restive North Waziristan tribal district. He had been shot in the chest.
Officials say Mir was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen after receiving threats from militants linked to the Taleban accusing him of spying for the government.
Mir was among 28 pro-government tribal elders who received death threats in June of last year.
