Authorities in Indian Kashmir say suspected Muslim separatists have abducted nine Hindu civilians and killed four of them.
Local authorities say the incident occurred early Sunday in Udhampur district northeast of the winter capital, Jammu.
They say the nine Hindus were grazing their cattle when they were ambushed and abducted. Police have recovered four bodies and are searching for the missing five.
Muslim separatists have been fighting for Kashmir's independence or its merger with neighboring Pakistan since 1989. The violence has claimed tens of thousands of lives.
