Zimbabwe Liberation & Democracy Figure Dr. Chris Mushonga Laid to Rest

Zimbabweans by the hundreds including Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and other senior government and political party officials flocked to the rural hamlet of Chishawasha in Mashonaland East today for the burial of Dr. Chris Mushonga.

Mushonga, 73, husband of Regional Integration and International Cooperation Minister Priscilla Misihairambwi-Mushonga, took part in the 1970s liberation struggle and was instrumental in the 1999 launch of the Movement for Democratic Change.

The orthopedic surgeon died August 15 of injuries sustained in June during an invasion and armed robbery at his Mount Pleasant, Harare, home.

The former Harare deputy mayor is survived by his wife and nine children.

Dr. Mushonga's younger brother Zacharia Mushonga said the surgeon was dedicated and continued to work almost to the end of his life.
