Women's Tennis: Myskina Reaches Rogers Cup Semifinals


Former French Open champion Anastasia Myskina of Russia has overcome ankle trouble and Gisela Dulko of Argentina to reach the semifinals of the Rogers Cup hard-court tennis tournament in Toronto, Canada.

Myskina, who had injured her ankle in a third round win over Shinobu Asagoe of Japan, defeated Dulko in straight sets, 6-4 ,7-5. The Russian player takes on former world number one Kim Clijsters of Belgium, who scored a straight-set win over 14th-seeded Flavia Pannetta of Italy 6-0, 6-3.

Other quarterfinal action has defending champion Amelie Mauresmo of France taking on Nadia Petrova of Russia and Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium taking on Czech player Nicole Vaidisova.

The tournament is one of several events players are using to prepare for the last major tournament of the year, the U.S. Open, which starts August 29 in New York.
