Authorities suspect the tribesmen abducted the family to pressure the government to release detained members of their tribe.
Two Austrians and two Swiss tourists were kidnapped in Yemen over the past month, but were later released.
Yemeni tribes have been known to use kidnappings to try to force concessions from the government. The hostages are usually released unharmed.
