Arab nations push back on Trump Gaza proposal
President Donald Trump’s plan to seek U.S. ownership of the Gaza Strip and move out its population has infuriated the Arab world and other global powers. Trump suggested the U.S. will take control of Gaza from Israel and create a "Riviera of the Middle East" after resettling the Palestinians, possibly in Egypt and Jordan. Egypt, an important U.S ally in the region which helped broker the Gaza ceasefire with Qatar says it’s working with partners including Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to solidify rejection of any displacement of Palestinians. Arab nations want to see a two-state solution with a separate Palestinian homeland alongside Israel. We speak with Brian Katulis, Senior Fellow for US Foreign Policy at the Middle East Institute.
