In past years, pilgrims and tourists have flocked to Axum, a holy city in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Today, many of its streets are quiet, and many businesses are closed due to more than seven months of war involving the national government and a regional political party that led the ruling coalition for three decades. Continuing battles in the countryside are deepening a strain on the city, as VOA’s Heather Murdock reports.
