Findings in a seven-year study provide proof that our ancient human ancestors, including Neanderthals, started adding foods that are rich in carbohydrates to their diets some 100,000 years ago, much earlier than thought. The study suggests adding these foods may have fueled the expansion of the brain as these species evolved.
