A baby panda born at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington has made an appearance before reporters ahead of her public debut scheduled for later this month.

The panda, named Bao Bao, climbed around her indoor habitat Monday with her mother Mei Xiang in front a crowd of journalists and photographers.

The cub is expected to make her official debut later this month.

The public has only been able to see Bao Boa online through the zoo's panda cameras.

Bao Bao will remain at the Smithsonian Zoo until she is four years old, when she will be sent back to China to produce her own cubs.
