Sarah Zaman

Sarah Zaman is the general assignments reporter with the Voice of America's News Center. Prior to the July 2022 appointment, Sarah served as interim managing editor for web and digital, editor, anchor, Interim executive producer, and reporter for 15 years in VOA's Urdu Service in Washington D.C.

She has covered a diverse range of topics such as U.S. elections, Black Lives Matter movement, U.S. foreign policy for Pakistan, Afghanistan and India, educational opportunities in the U.S. for international students, and issues facing Pakistani diaspora, and American Muslims. Sarah has hosted live global town halls for VOA on the COVID-19 pandemic, international education opportunities in the U.S., women in technology, and on grassroots activism among youth. In 2008 Sarah won a student Emmy Award for her documentary 'Bismillah' which followed a Muslim-American woman's run for city council in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sarah has appeared on Al Jazeera and many of Pakistan's major news channels as a panelist.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in electronic media production from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Arts degree in documentary film production from the University of Florida.
