U.S. lawmakers are considering new laws that would expand background checks for gun buyers. The proposed legislation comes more than four months after a lone gunman killed 20 school children and six educators at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. VOA's Chris Simkins reports on a veteran police chief who is leading efforts by other law enforcement agencies to reduce gun violence without infringing on Americans' constitutional right to own firearms.
