VOA China 360: What's Behind Surge in Chinese Migrants Illegally Crossing Mexico-US Border?

U.S. media are reporting a jump in Chinese migrants illegally crossing from Mexico into the United States in search of a better life. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency caught 663 Chinese people making that crossing from last October to this May in the area around San Diego. That compares with 48 apprehensions in all of the previous fiscal year. Michael Lipin asks historian Elliott Young of Lewis & Clark College to explain what's driving this latest illegal Chinese migration wave.
