Iraqi Kurds voted in a controversial independence referendum Monday, condemned by their neighbors and criticized by many others. Kurdish news media said more than 70 percent of about 5 million eligible voters cast their ballots. Most but not all are expected to support an independent state for Kurds. Kurdish leaders say they are not planning to fight for a separate state but use the poll results to negotiate with the Iraqi government. VOA's Zlatica Hoke has more.
