Thousands of people protested across Haiti Wednesday in sweeping anti-corruption protests that coincided with a national holiday honoring one of the heroes of the country's independence, Jean Jacques Dessalines. Police opened fire on demonstrators, killing at least one person and injuring several others, as they threw rocks and set fire to tires.
