Despite Proliferation of Low-Quality Vaccines, Brazil Makes Progress Against COVID

Brazil was among the countries facing big difficulties in purchasing COVID vaccines early this year and, with fatalities soaring, its leaders bet on China's CoronaVac to jump-start its immunization program. But the Chinese vaccine is shunned by many Brazilians after studies indicated a low efficacy rate – so much so that Brazilian authorities banned the distribution of millions of doses this month pending further study. For VOA in Sao Paulo, Edgar Maciel reports Brazil is making some adaptations that could be starting to yield positive results.
