Brazil, Nigeria, Argentina, USA Win in Youth Soccer

Brazil, Argentina, the United States, and Nigeria have all advanced to the second round of the World Youth Football championships in the Netherlands.

The Brazilian Under-20 squad defeated South Korea, 2-0, in Group-F. Nigeria shut out Switzerland, 3-0. Brazil plays Syria in the second round while Nigeria faces Ukraine.

South Korea was not one of the four best third-placed teams and did not qualify.

The U.S. team defeated Egypt, 1-0, while Argentina beat Germany by the same score. The U.S., Argentina and Germany all reached the next round from Group-D. The Americans take on Italy, which finished third in Group-E behind Colombia and Syria.

Colombia beat Syria 2-0 and won the group with nine points. Syria was next with four points followed by Italy, which defeated Canada, 4-1. Colombia takes on archrival Argentina in the second round.

The host Netherlands scored a 1-0 win over Benin and reached the second round from Group-A along with Japan. The Japanese played Australia to a 1-1 draw. The Dutch take on Chile in the second round while Japan faces Morocco.

Other second round matches have Spain playing Turkey and China facing Germany.

Second round winners advance to the quarterfinals, which start June 24th. The tournament semifinals are June 28th. The third place and championship games are July second.
