Bolivia's Morales Arrives in Spain for Talks With Government Leaders

Bolivian President-elect Evo Morales has arrived in Spain for meetings with top government officials and King Juan Carlos.

Mr. Morales, who was in Venezuela Tuesday where he met with President Hugo Chavez, is on a 10-day world trip that will include stops in China and Brazil.

While in Madrid Wednesday, the Bolivian president-elect will meet with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. Spanish news media report Mr. Zapatero will express his government's interest that the legal rights of Spanish companies operating in Bolivia be respected.

Spain has investments in Bolivia's natural gas industry, which Mr. Morales has said he wants to nationalize.

Mr. Morales, an Aymara Indian, will take office on January 22 to become Bolivia's first indigenous president.
