Bolivia's Morales Wraps Up Visit to Spain

Bolivian President-elect Evo Morales has wrapped up a visit to Spain urging Spanish and European businessmen not to be afraid to invest in Bolivia.

Mr. Morales made the comment during a meeting Thursday with Spanish trade unionists.

During his visit, Mr. Morales stressed that Bolivia needs foreign partners, but said his country will not relinquish control of its natural resources.

Wednesday, Spain agreed to forgive most of Bolivia's $120-million debt. Mr. Morales said the debt would be forgiven in exchange for investment in education programs.

The Bolivian leader, who is on a 10-day world trip, heads to Belgium next. He will then travel to France, South Africa, China and Brazil. He will take office January 22.
