The documentary “India’s Daughter” by British filmmaker Leslee Udwin recounts the brutal rape and murder of a young woman on a bus in Delhi in 2012. The incident sparked widespread protests across the country and a conversation, in social media as well as inside the country and outside, about women’s rights and sexual violence. While many overwhelmingly supported the film, others voiced anger, leading the Indian government to ban its release. Why did “India’s Daughter” spark rage but not action?
