NASA is planning to, someday, send humans to Mars. A number of challenges must first be met before they can actually land people on the Red Planet. Among them include finding a landing spot with ready access to resources like water. To help the space agency in their search for an ideal Mars landing spot, their scientists created a water ice locator map that points out places where water ice can be found about 2.5 centimeters below the Martian surface.
