The New England Patriots have won Super Bowl 39, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-21.
The Patriots and Eagles were locked in a defensive first-half battle, with both teams finding the end zone just once. Philadelphia answered a third-quarter Patriots score to stay close. But in the final 15 minutes, New England began to wear down the Eagles, while scoring 10 fourth-quarter points -- enough to withstand a late Philadelphia rally.
Patriots receiver Deion Branch - named the game's most valuable player with 11 catches for 133 yards-- described how his team played. "We were trying to play along with them. And, they were going through stuff pretty fast. And, that is not how we play ball. We take our time to make plays. Once we settled down, we started making stuff happen, pushing the ball up the field a whole lot," he said.
New England quarterback Tom Brady completed 23 of 33 pass attempts for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He and the Patriots have won three titles in four years - joining an elite group of teams to win at least three Super Bowls.
