World number one men's tennis player Roger Federer of Switzerland has reached the third round of the Hamburg Masters clay-court tennis tournament in Germany.
Federer, the 2004 champion, took only 53 minutes Wednesday to beat Czech player Tomas Berdych in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
In the third round, the Swiss player takes on Spain's Tommy Robredo, who ousted three-time French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil from the event (6-3, 6-0).
In other matches, Britain's Tim Henman overcame wind, rain and his countryman Greg Rusedski to reach the third round (7-6, 6-4). At one point, the winds were so high that they toppled a courtside umbrella used to protect players.
Henman next takes on Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela, a straight-set winner over Robin Soderling of Sweden (6-1, 6-4). Russia's Nikolay Davydenko advanced by beating Mariano Puerta of Argentina (7-5, 6-3).
The clay-court tournament is a key warm-up for the French Open, which starts later this month in Paris.
