Argentine tennis player Mariano Puerta won the final four games of the match to reach the French Open men's final by scoring a five-set win over Russia's Nikolay Davydenko.
After a 1 hour, 20 minute rain delay, Puerta outlasted the 12th-seeded Russian in three and one-half hours, 6-3, 5-7, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Until this week, Puerta's best performances were a win in Casablanca and a final appearance in Buenos Aires.
The 37th-ranked Argentine player faces the winner of Friday's marquee semifinal match between world number one Roger Federer of Switzerland and fourth-seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
Federer has won every one of the Grand Slam tournaments except the French Open. Until this year, the Swiss player's best performance in Paris was a fourth round appearance in 2000. Nadal is playing in the French Open for the first time.
The women's final is Saturday with two former champions facing one another - 2003 winner Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium and 2000 titlist Mary Pierce of France.
