Israeli Troops Kill 2 Palestinian Militants in Clashes

The Israeli army says troops shot and killed two Palestinian militants after they tried to enter Israel from the Gaza Strip early Saturday.

A surge in clashes in less than 24 hours has left eight Palestinians dead, including a teenage Arab-Israeli boy.

The army said the two Palestinian militants used the cover of thick fog to sneak into Israel near the Erez border crossing. One Israeli soldier was wounded in a shootout that followed.

In the West Bank, Israeli forces killed an Islamic Jihad militant and wounded two others Saturday in Jenin.

The Israeli army said a special forces unit operating in Jenin spotted three armed men in a car and opened fire on them.

On Friday, Palestinian sources said a Palestinian militant and a teenage Israeli Arab boy were killed in a raid in the northern West Bank village of Saida, near the town of Tulkarem.

An Israeli army spokesman confirmed that an armed man was killed, but gave no information about the second victim.

The army said it confiscated two rifles and ammunition during the raid.
