Turkish Authorities Detain 4 Suspects in Deadly Diyarbakir Bombing

Turkish authorities say police have detained four suspects in connection with Thursday's car bombing in the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir that killed five people and wounded almost 70 others.

Officials say the car bomb was detonated by remote control as a military bus carrying soldiers passed on one of the southeastern city's main streets.

Officials say two youths are among the dead, and about 30 soldiers are among the injured.

Firefighters have extinguished the blaze that raged in the area of the explosion, which was near a large shopping mall, luxury hotel and a private school.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned the attack.

There has been no claim of responsibility, but Turkish authorities say they suspect rebels from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK. The government has accused the group of launching attacks in southeastern Turkey from bases in northern Iraq.

The PKK has been fighting for autonomy in Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast since 1984. That violence has killed more than 30,000 people.
