A leader of one of Ghana’s Muslim communities says the holy month of Ramadan is not just for
celebration, but rather it’s the time when as a Muslim “you are enjoined to ”bring God closer to
you.”
Spirit of Communality
Alhaji Ahmed
Ramadan is the Chairman of a Ghanaian political party, the National
People’s
Convention. He told VOA’s Akwei Thompson, Ramadan is a month of sharing where those who
can afford, provide for those who cannot.
“ You see a lot of communality,” he said.
The Ghanaian politician does not think the present world economic downturn will lessen that
spirit of communality.
