US Sprint Champion Maurice Greene To Skip Zurich Athletics Meet - 2003-08-04

Olympic and world 100-meter sprint champion Maurice Greene of the United States will skip the Zurich athletics meet on August 15, to enable him to concentrate on his preparations for the World Athletics Championships in Paris starting later this month.

Greene's coach John Smith thinks the competition is too close to the championships. Instead Greene, who has been struggling with tendinitis in his right leg, will run the four-by-100-meter relay at the Berlin Golden League meet on August 10.

World 100-meter record holder Tim Montgomery of the United States will also be in Berlin and organizers are still hoping that Greene will run in the individual event against his compatriot.

Greene will also miss this Friday's London Grand Prix. The men's 100-meter race will feature Montgomery and European champion Dwain Chambers of Britain.
