In an interview with Australia's Herald Sun newspaper, Abbott said the "two most urgent priorities" of his administration are getting rid of the tax on carbon emissions and stopping asylum-seeker boats.
Abbott told the newspaper there is an "extraordinary weight of responsibility" with his new position.
