Ichiro Joins Baseball's 3,000 Hit Club

Miami Marlins' Ichiro Suzuki tips his helmet to the crowd as they applaud after he tripled off Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chris Rusin in the seventh inning of a baseball game, Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.

Japan's Ichiro Suzuki has become the 30th player in Major League Baseball history to amass 3,000 hits.

The 42-year-old outfielder's milestone hit was a triple, coming Sunday in the 7th inning of a 10-7 win by his Miami Marlins over the host Colorado Rockies.

Suzuki is the fourth player born outside the U.S. to become a member of the 3,000 hit club, joining Roberto Clemente, Rod Carew and Rafael Palmeiro.

He is already all but assured a place in Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame after he retires, holding the record of 10 consecutive seasons with at least 200 hits. He is also known for a superb throwing arm and dazzling speed - in his prime years.

After playing several years of professional baseball in Japan, he joined the Seattle Mariners in 2001 as a 27-year-old rookie in the U.S.

Suzuki has 4,278 hits in his entire professional career.
