Madagascar's former president has been arrested, just hours after he returned to the country following more than five years in exile.
Local reports say Marc Ravalomanana was detained by government forces at his home Monday in the capital, Antananarivo.
It was not immediately clear where he had been taken.
Earlier, he spoke to supporters outside the home, saying he had come back to work for Madagascar's development.
The government had threatened to arrest Ravalomanana if he ever returned to the island nation. The ousted president had tried to come back several times before but was always blocked by authorities.
Ravalomanana fled Madagascar in early 2009, after a military-backed coup that brought to power the capital's mayor, Andry Rajoelina.
Under international pressure, the country held elections in 2012 that put a Rajoelina ally, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, in office.
