A major earthquake has struck southeastern Iran and shaken large parts of neighboring Pakistan.
The U.S. Geological Survey estimated the magnitude at 7.8, with an epicenter near the Iranian cities of Khash and Saravan in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
Iranian state media reported a lower magnitude of 7.5 and said there were fatalities. Tuesday's quake happened at 3:14 p.m. Iran time .
Pakistani authorities told VOA's Deewa service that two bodies were found in the rubble of buildings damaged by the quake in the district of Mashkel, near the Iranian border.
The quake also shook the Pakistani cities of Quetta and Karachi, hundreds of kilometers away. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties in the two cities.
