Nepal's Prime Minister Diagnosed with Lung Cancer

FILE - Nepal's newly elected Prime Minister Sushil Koirala waves to the media at the Constitution Assembly Hall in Katmandu, Nepal.

Officials in Nepal say the prime minister has been diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer and is scheduled to begin radiotherapy at a New York hospital.

Authorities say Sushil Koirala's treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is expected to be completed within two weeks.

Koirala, who took office in February, had traveled to New York for an annual medical checkup at the hospital.

He is the fourth member of his family to become prime minister and was elected on a pledge to deliver a long-delayed constitution to Nepal.
