Obama Tours Tornado-Damaged Arkansas, Promises Help

President Barack Obama tours tornado-damaged areas of Vilonia, Arkansas, May 7, 2014.

President Barack Obama told victims of the tornado-ravaged southeastern U.S. that they are not alone as they clean up and rebuild.

Obama toured some tornado damage in Vilonia, Arkansas, north of the capital of Little Rock.

Standing in front of the rubble of destroyed buildings and wrecked cars, the president said what happened in Vilonia was felt by all Americans. He said his administration will help with the clean-up and recovery.

Obama said he is impressed by the spirit he has seen in the town's citizens. He also toured other storm-damaged areas by helicopter.

The April 27 tornado that tore thorough Arkansas killed 15 people and wiped out hundreds of homes.

Eight other states were also struck, but Arkansas was the hardest-hit.
