The statue is 8-meter high and weighs 8.5 tons and made from quartzite stone.

Archaeologists examine the condition of the statue and the writings carved on the back. King Ramses II was famous of stealing other kings monuments and carve his name on it.

Archaeologists covers the statue before transporting.

Policemen guard the site, while residents are celebrating the discovery.

Ahmed, one of the residents in the area, shows the excavation of one of the famous ancient rulers.

Ahmed watches the excavation of Ramses II statues. He said, “the rest of the statues is under our house, hopefully they pull it, but they have to compensate with us and offer another place to live in."

The Egyptian antiquities minister Dr. Khaled Al-Anany tells the media, “It’s one of the most recent valuable discoveries, and the statues will be on display at the Egyptian museum in Tahrir soon."
