Suicide Bomber Targets Kazakhstan Police Building

A suicide bomber has attacked near the security services building in the city of Aktobe in northwest Kazakhstan, killing himself and wounding at least three others.

A spokesman for the prosecutor's office, Zhandos Umiraliyev, said Tuesday the bombing outside the National Service Committee building was carried out by 25-year-old Rakhimzhan Makatov, who was a suspected criminal.

The motive for the bombing is unclear, and a criminal investigation has been opened.

The bombing was an unusual event in Kazakhstan, a majority Muslim nation considered to be the most stable country in the volatile Central Asia region.
