The Foreign Department of the Philippines says two sailors are dead and 16 are missing after their cargo ship sank off the coast of Vietnam Friday.

Philippine officials said on Sunday that the Norwegian-flagged Bulk Jupiter was carrying a cargo of ore from Malaysia to China when it went down Friday morning, 200 kilometers off the coast of the southern Vietnamese city of Vung Tau.

Authorities said only the ship's chief cook has been rescued, while two bodies have been pulled from the water.

There was no reason given for what caused the ship to sink.
