The global population is expected to top more than 7.2 billion people on New Year's Day 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau, for an increase of more than one percent over the same time last year. Meanwhile, the Bureau estimates there will be more than 320 million Americans.
Every eight seconds, the number of people in the U.S. is projected to grow by one birth. Also, immigration to this country is likely to increase the population by one person every 33 seconds. The Census Bureau projects that the combination of births, deaths [one every 12 seconds] and international migration will increase the number of people living in the U.S. by one person every 16 seconds.
Worldwide, during January, the bureau expects there will be 4.3 births every second and 1.8 deaths every second.
China remains the world's most populous nation, with more than 1.3 billion people, followed by India, with a population of more than 1.2 billion people.
