China Criticizes Japan for Charting Attack Scenarios

update

China has criticized Japan's defense agency for charting out scenarios for a potential Chinese military attack against Japan.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue accused Japan of having, in her words, a "Cold War mentality," adding that the scenarios were without merit.

Japanese media reported Monday that a Japanese defense agency review presented three possibilities for Chinese action against Japan. It says China might take action to secure Chinese interests in a gas field in the East China Sea, to seize a disputed set of islands known as Daioyu in China and Senkaku in Japanto or to keep U.S. forces based in Japan from protecting Taiwan.

The Japanese report advises using diplomatic means to keep the situation stable.
