Kenyan Cheboror Runs Record Time to Win Amsterdam Marathon

Kenyan runner Robert Cheboror ran a record time to win the Amsterdam Marathon Sunday, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 6 minutes and 22 seconds.

His countryman, William Kipsang finished second, two minutes and 18 seconds back, while France's al-Hassam Lahssini was third in 2:10:09. Kipsang won the race and set the old record in 2003.

Cheboror has long been seen as a potential champion, but his best previous finish was as runner-up at the Boston Marathon in April. He was ninth in the Amsterdam event last year.

In the women's race, Slovenia's Helena Japornik ran to victory in two hours, 27 minutes and 32 seconds. Emily Kimuria of Kenya was second in 2:29:32, while Tigiste Abidi of Ethiopia in 2:33:25.
