Top-seeded Andre Agassi has reached the semifinals of the Stockholm Open Indoor tennis tournament for the first time by scoring a straight-set win over Fernando Verdasco of Spain (7-6, 6-2).
Agassi had lost two previous quarterfinals at this event in 1989 and 1994. In the semifinals, the American faces Tommy Haas of Germany, a straight-set winner over Olivier Rochus of Belgium (6-3, 7-6).
The other semifinal has Sweden's Thomas Johansson taking on countryman Michael Ryderstedt. Johansson scored a straight-set win over Andrei Pavel of Romania (7-6, 7-5). Ryderstedt advanced when second seed Joachim Johansson withdrew in the second set with a fever.
