Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Finalize Results From Regional Elections

Three South American countries are tabulating results from Sunday's regional and municipal elections.

In Venezuela, preliminary results indicate supporters of President Hugo Chavez have won at least 18 of 22 governor races. Mr. Chavez, who survived a recall vote two months ago, called Monday a day of victory.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, the left-leaning party of President Luiz Inacio da Silva was dealt a blow in nationwide municipal elections, losing the mayor's seat in the major city of Sao Paulo.

The ruling Workers' Party also lost the key cities of Porto Alegre and Curitiba. But, analysts say the outcome does not indicate a loss of confidence in President Silva.

And in Chile, officials say more than 80 percent of ballots have been counted in municipal elections. Preliminary results show President Ricardo Lagos' ruling center-left coalition winning more than half of the votes.
