Concerns Grow Over Fate of Kidnapped Aid Worker in Iraq

update

Concern over the fate of a kidnapped aid official in Iraq is growing ahead of a deadline threatened by her captors.

The unidentified group holding Margaret Hassan has threatened to turn her over to wanted terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's network within 48 hours if British troops do not leave Iraq. That time period ends later Thursday, and it is not known if the captors have carried out the threat.

The CARE International official was kidnapped October 19 from the charity's Baghdad office by unknown gunmen.

Tuesday the Arabic language television network al-Jazeera aired a portion of a new videotape Ms. Hassan. It refused to show the entire tape for what it calls humanitarian reasons.
