Auburn Stays Undefeated in US College Football

update

Third-ranked Auburn University has defeated Georgia, 24-6, while fifth ranked California beat Washington, 42-12 in U.S. college football action Saturday. Auburns win over its SEC rival (Southeastern Conference) keeps the Alabama school in the hunt for the national championship.

Auburn is third in the Bowl Championship Series standings, but the win over Georgia was the Tigers' 10th of the year and leaves them within reach of playing for the national title. Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville said he was especially pleased with the way his seniors played.

"You know, we have been practicing well all year. And this was one of the special weeks to us. You know, our seniors have been great to us and have been emotional all week, this is their last home game. It has been a special team. We have got a good football team. I am really proud of the defense the way we played tonight," he said.

Meanwhile, California outplayed Washington to score its eighth win of the season. Number six Texas kept its hopes alive in the championship race with a 27-23 win over Kansas. The win was the Longhorns' second come-from-behind victory in two weeks and keeps them in the hunt for a major post-season bowl.

In other games, number-nine Michigan beat Northwestern 42-20 while number-21 Boston College defeated 13th-ranked West Virginia, 36-17.
