Nigeria has ended a state of emergency in central Plateau State, which was imposed six months ago amid clashes between Muslim and Christian groups.
Hundreds of supporters cheered Thursday, as Governor Joshua Dariye arrived in the state capital, Jos, to resume his duties.
In May, President Olusegun Obasanjo suspended local rule in Plateau, accusing Mr. Dariye of not doing enough to stop the violence.
Hundreds of people were killed in a series of attacks between Muslim cattle herders and Christian farmers, resulting from disputes over land, cattle and political control.
Separately, British authorities are investigating charges of money laundering against Governor Dariye who was arrested in London in September. He was released on bond.
