Nicaraguan Court Nullifies Fraud Conviction Against Aleman

update

Former Nicaraguan President Arnoldo Aleman has been cleared of fraud charges in an embezzlement case.

The court dismissed charges that Aleman diverted at least 1.3 million dollars intended for improvements at a government-run television station during his time in office from 1997 to 2002.

Despite Friday's ruling, Aleman will remain under house arrest, serving a 20-year sentence for corruption. The former president was convicted last year of stealing about 100 million dollars in public funds.
