Car Bomb Explosion in Madrid Injures 43

Spanish officials say a powerful car bomb blast outside Madrid's main convention center has injured at least 43 people.

Spanish officials say the blast was preceded by a warning from the Basque separatist group ETA. It came just hours before Spain's King Juan Carlos and visiting Mexican President Vicente Fox were scheduled to inaugurate a major art show near the blast site.

Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero condemned the blast as a terrorist attack.

The Interior Ministry says the bombing came as authorities detained at least 14 people suspected of links to ETA in a nationwide sweep.

ETA has been blamed for more than 800 deaths in its more than 30-year campaign for creation of an independent Basque state in northern Spain and southwestern France.
