Death Toll in Pakistani Floods, Avalanches Surpasses 400

update

The death toll in Pakistan from flash floods in the south and heavy snow in the north has risen to more than 400, as authorities reported 80 more fatalities.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz visited North-West Frontier Province early Monday. He later told journalists in Islamabad more than 150 people had died in avalanches and heavy snow just in that province and in Pakistani Kashmir.

In southwestern Baluchistan province, a large-scale operation to rescue flood victims and provide them with badly needed relief supplies continues.

At least 250 people are confirmed dead after the Shadikor Dam in the Pasni region burst Thursday, sweeping entire villages out to sea. More than a thousand people are still missing and tens of thousands remain homeless.
