NBA Plans to Limit Beer Consumption at Games

The National Basketball Association is issuing guidelines to limit the size and number of beers sold at games to help prevent another brawl like the one last November at a Detroit Pistons-Indiana Pacers game.

NBA commissioner David Stern also said Thursday that teams will make announcements about what kind of fan behavior is considered unacceptable.

The measures are part of new league-wide security regulations to begin next week. The regulations will cover such topics as the number of security officers teams should employ, as well as their tactics and placement in the arenas. The league office could penalize teams that do not adhere to the guidelines.

The policies are to take effect after the All-Star game, which is Sunday in Denver.
